The Harrowing: 5 - 7 December 2008
![]() It is three years since Harold fell at Hastings and the hated Conqueror assumed England’s throne. Despite the crushing defeat at Hastings and the military superiority of the Norman knights, resistance to their brutal regime has been fierce. The battle however is an unequal one and King William a pitiless opponent. Already tens of thousands of common folk, both serfs and freemen, have died from sword, starvation or cold. Although the English have fought bravely it is clear that they are losing and hopes of intercession from abroad appear faint. Yet bleak as things are now, there are spreading rumours that the situation may be worse still. Tales told in hushed voices over dim fires speak of a darkness at the heart of the Norman regime. Although William ostensibly bends his knee to Rome, it is said that strange and ungodly rituals take place in the depths of the many castles being built across the land. Archbishop Aldred, a good and holy man and outspoken critic of the regime, died recently in mysterious circumstances, though the common folk are in no doubt as to who is to blame. But if the Archbishop can be slain then who is safe? |
LRP Event details
| Event | The Harrowing will be a medieval horror LRP with 24-hour time-in. Players will assume the roles of 11th century peasants so be prepared to get cold, tired and dirty, and don’t count on getting much sleep. It may also involve the use of strobes, smoke and gruesome special effects. Combat will be quick and deadly. As peasants, going up against an armoured and experienced knight will be nigh on suicidal. This is not Robin Hood, death or serious injury is the likely outcome of any fight.
