Located between Wroshan and Tethic, the lands of Danar have been little more than wilderness crossed only by a few caravan paths for as long as the younger races can remember. However, a few of the ancients know of a time when Danar was a kingdom of great power, ruled by several noble elven houses. Under their stewardship, the Danari enjoyed a golden age of civilization where peace reigned and scholars and magicians made many advances. But, long ago, for reasons that are not known, this great realm faded into memory and its wonders were consigned to myth and legend.

Now events conspire to thrust Danar back into the limelight. An expedition to a remote peninsula on the Eastern coast of Danar uncovered a demonic cult that was using ancient Danarian secrets to open a gateway to a demonic plane. After battling the winged demons known as the Cambion, as well as their brutal cannibal allies, the Crulag, the adventurers were able to close the gateway, though not without casualties. Yet even before these brave souls had returned to Port Elias, winged creatures were seen in the skies above other parts of Danar. Also, emboldened by this spreading malignancy, tribes of goblins, orcs and trolls have been massing. Clearly, the problem did not end at Blackhaven.

But not all the rising powers in Danar are evil. Even as knights of the various Omagan orders watch anxiously, powerless to intervene, bound as they are by ancient oaths not to cross the border, rumours abound that the throne of Danar may at last be reclaimed. An ancient stone tablet of rule, entrusted long ago to the fey for safe-keeping, has resurfaced as the fey honour an ancient compact with the Queen of Danar.

The tablet, whose authenticity has been verified by Gideon mystics in Velian, sets out an ancient ritual called the Queensrite, which is used to select the rightful ruler of Danar. The fey are carrying the tablet to Danarmorn, a mountain just to the north of the Vorrin forest, the resting place of the first Queen of Danar. Set at the appointed place, the tablet forms part of the 'Table of Rule', the very centre of Danari society, about which the monarch traditionally holds court.

Across the lands the surviving descendants of the once mighty elven houses consult their genealogists and muster their forces, as does a veritable army of heroes, chancers, thieves, explorers and the merely curious, all eager to see what this means and perhaps to seize the throne for themselves...
