A ‘Poor Knights of Danar’ adventure.

“Long has the desecration of the Luthien temple in Mayene and the bloody slaughter of its peaceful and kindly mystics haunted my dreams. Now, however, after years of training and questing, with the blessing of my church and full legal authority, I am finally able to do something about it. This summer, when the sun’s rays shine brightest and truest, I shall lead a military expedition to scour Mayene clean of whatever darkness still befouls it and restore the Luthien temple to its former glory. I will be aided in this by my trusted allies, the Poor Knights of Danar, but given the dangers that lurk there would also appeal to other knights and adventurers of true heart and stout resolve to assist me. The Church of Luthien has graciously agreed to provide some degree of recompense for those who would take part, but those who would come solely for monetary or magical reward should seek employment elsewhere. Bitter experience has shown me that such individuals cannot be relied on when the need is greatest so I will be handpicking my party. Those of you who would stand with me in such a mission should send word to the nearest temple of Luthien.

In faith,

Sir Peter of Mayene, Knight of Luthien and patron of the Poor Knights of Danar.” Artist: Chris Malidore

The plot / player background

More than a dozen years ago, during the Necromantic wars that wreaked havoc throughout the known lands, dark forces allied to Quartak attacked the Temple of Luthien that had stood for many generations in Mayene. A great slaughter of the mystics, their followers and servants ensued, with none surviving save a young acolyte. In the years that followed the ruins were left undisturbed and the land around began to gain a dark reputation as a place of evil filled with dread creatures. The village of Mudley, once a noted stop on the road between Orwick and the Vorrin Forest, became less welcoming and travellers started to follow a route further to the north, disturbed by the chill that the place set upon their bones. The entire manor was forgotten, a place to be shunned, until two years ago, the title and deeds to Mayene were awarded to a knight for his service at Blackhaven. This was Sir Peter, a knight of the Crusaders of the Sun and the patron of the Poor Knights of Danar, and also once a young acolyte of Luthien rescued from Mayene. Now, supported by the Church of Luthien, he has resolved to restore the Temple at Mayene and take his seat in his manor. He has issued a call to those who would support his efforts to join him at the village of Fenton, situated on the northern edge of Bellham Forest, on the night of the Feast of St Jenifer.
